2022 Highlights

MOAA Central Ohio Chapter
Annual Meeting
20 January 2023

The end of year 2022 chapter roster stood at 124 Military, 20 Surviving Spouses, and 25 Supporting Members for a total of 169 members. Huntington checking account balances as of 31 December 2022 were: Chapter – $8450.91 and Foundation – $10,369.59.

National MOAA, CAPT Jennifer Travers and CAPT Mike Mentas, our national and local legislation liaisons have kept us up to date on legislation important to all of us and let us know when it is important to contact our congressmen and state legislators about upcoming votes.

The Board is now meeting and conducting required business in person but with ZOOM being used to facilitate those who cannot attend in person.  A big ATTABOY to Pryor Timmons who makes this possible..   As you see our normal and formal luncheons have resumed with caution.  We have made a slight change to the luncheon schedule.  We now have the luncheons in the third week of the month.  This will allow some space between the Board meeting and the luncheons.  The exception will be in December where it will be the second week to avoid crowding our Christmas schedules.

LTC Collins has not met with ROTC Detachment commanders due to COVID.  Lt Col Marston McKeon has taking over the JROTC and ROTC functions of the chapter effectively the first of January.  She will attempt to visit the chapters and increase our JROTC chapters.

Our Foundation is supporting our programs through tax deductible contributions.  The board will also look into expanding the programs we support.  In 2022 we supported Honor Flight, Franklin County Stand down, and Support a Soldier.  Licking County Veterans Stand-Down was not required.  The remaining funds are held in abeyance.  Adopt a Service Member Chair, Dorothy Williams, continued our monthly program of sending boxes to those deployed overseas in Kuwait, Africa and other locations. (600 soldiers in Syria.) (editorial comment)

To support our Foundation we would encourage all members to make donations and sign up for the Kroger Community awards program and designate the MOAA COC Foundation as the recipient.

Our chapter once again received MOAA’s highest honor, a 5 star banner for our level of excellence.

Special Thanks go to our long-term webmaster, CDR Walter Rey, who consistently earns our Chapter "5-stars" in the coveted Marvin J. Harris Communication Award Program. Beginning in the Spring of 2023, Walt will oversee our new website, hosted by NonProfitDynamics.com
