Annual Meeting

At the end of year 2023-chapter roster stood at 101 Military, 18 Surviving Spouses, and 27 Supporting Members for a total of 146 members. Huntington checking account balances as of 31 December 2023 were: Chapter - $7,429.82 and Foundation - $14,630.61.

National MOAA, CAPT Jennifer Travers and LTC Jeff Collins our national and local legislation liaisons respectively, have kept us up to date on legislation important to all of us and let us know when it is important to contact our congressmen and state legislators about upcoming votes. 

The Board is meeting at the DSCC and conducting required business in person but with ZOOM being used to facilitate those who cannot attend in person. Our luncheons are now held at the Rusty Bucket in New Albany. We have had two luncheons there and it is a success.

Lt Col Marston McKeon took over the JROTC and ROTC functions of the chapter effective the first of January.  With one exception, she and the President personally delivered scholarship checks to the ROTC detachments. She contacted all interested JROTC detachments and provided them with medals and certificates to be awarded to an outstanding JROTC cadet.  She also added one detachment to our supported list.

Our Foundation is supporting our programs through tax deductible contributions. The board will also look into expanding the programs we support.  In 2023 we supported Franklin County Stand down, Adopt a Service Member and awarded one scholarship to each of the supported ROTC detachments.  Adopt a Service Member Chair, Dorothy Williams, continued our monthly program of sending boxes to those deployed overseas in Kuwait, Africa, and other locations.

To support the Foundation, we would encourage all to sign up for the Kroger Community awards program and designate the MOAA COC Foundation as the recipient. 

Our chapter once again received MOAA’s highest honor, a 5-star banner for our Level of Excellence.

Our MOAA Central Ohio Chapter website, developed & maintained by our webmaster, CDR Rey, won a 5-star award & our monthly e-newsletter, edited by CDR Rey, also won a 5 star award, in MOAA’s Col. Marvin J. Harris Communication Awards for Chapters.

As always, the board will be looking for volunteers to fill various committees and other positions.

The bi-annual convention at Youngstown ARS was a resounding success.  The chapter sent twelve members. The presentations were informative, challenging, and interesting.  The informal get together with a libation were icing on the cake as it is one of the main reasons we have joined the local chapter of MOAA. The consensus was that the location was outstanding and should be used for all subsequent conventions.

We changed our website provider and after a couple of hiccups it is providing a better experience.  Kudos to Walt and Nancy for doing it and transferring all our information to the new site.  The website also has a link to Foundation issues and the ability to accept contributions.  Membership application forms, both for new members and those renewing, can be completed on or downloaded from the website as well as a link to join MOAA.  We have also added for your convenience PayPal to our financial transactions to make it easier to pay for annual dues and charitable contributions.
